The second-hand marketplace Users Share Displeasure About Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with similar services.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, located in Scotland, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
