Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in prison, but he remained under house arrest pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments came to light.

This encompassed attempting to break his ankle monitor and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a possible escape.
